A medical certificate is required, what form do I need?

NSW Maritime will only accept the double side two (2) page forms within the NSW Maritime application form. For example: and advanced diver medical is not acceptable as it does not address such things as colour blindness and hearing.

What type of assessments or tests will there be?

The assessment tasks include oral questions and answers, various worksheets, and a variety of Multiple Choice Question Papers addressing course elements. The assessment process will be in a controlled environment and conducted by an on-site trainer. Your work is evidence and placed in your student file. You must be an active participant and attend each training day. You will also need to demonstrate practical competence. If you are unable to attend each day, you can complete this day or other days the following month (within 4 months, without penalty) to complete any missed assessments. If you do not reach the required pass mark, you are given one or more opportunities for re-work/re-assessment, either on the same day or after more self-study, or revision of the SEA SCHOOL Handbooks.

Can I lodge my sea-service application without training certificates?

No, the maritime authority requires (1) sea-service application and evidence and (2) training documentation, before assessing your sea-time and subsequent (3) written approval of attending an oral assessment.

Where can I look for work?

To find a marine job, ask the industry itself. Look for work where your personal interests coincide. If you like sailing, fishing or diving, look for employment within those businesses.

Full time, part time and casual work can be found with government agencies and private companies such as ferries, whale watching and large tourism organisations such as Captain Cook Cruises. Opportunities are found by phoning, visiting and emailing organisations on the water and on the waterfront. Use the yellow pages and look up boat charters, yacht hire, marine contractors, whale watching, fishing charter, environmental services, maritime authorities, mooring contractors, diving commercial, marinas, boat repair services, slipways, shipping companies and agents, luxury boat hire, boat detailing, boat hire, boat sales, marine chandlery, dredging, wharf construction and repairs, boat mechanics, aquaculture, pearling, marine parks and wildlife, maritime museums, historic vessels, aquariums, on-water catering and hospitality and volunteer groups.

Look up boating and employment pages, and visit the Boating Industry Association in your state:
