ROS LOG BOOK
Your instructor will sign off your record of service logbook. The ROS book is available at a NSW Maritime Office for approx $25. You are required to provide 2 passport sized photographs, complete a NSW Maritime application form including a medical fitness report and eyesight test. In time this book will be completed and signed off with vessel name, skipper/owner and duties performed and completed aboard. Everyone should also enter their working place, day and time in a small diary and log the time spent on the job to reinforce.
SUITABLE FOR
Boat Licence: For anyone over 12years, those with language and learning difficulties catered for.
Certificate Courses: The training is aimed at any adult entering the maritime sector as a new deckhand in the fishing, trading or tourism industries, or qualifying young school leavers, school to work transition, casual or full time employees within the industry. Popular too with recreational boat owners, charter boat operators, fisherman, dive masters, sea-change operators, and mature age workers. Also many from within the maritime industry and people up-skilling and without a formal qualification receive Certificates in Maritime Operations and Marine Engineering; many more enjoy the career change, such as small business owners, truck drivers, builder's labourers, people in administration, women, and indigenous persons.
DELIIVERY of TRAINING
The training will include on aboard a vessel, in port or underway, given proper equipment. It combines face-to-face trainer led theory classes and daily practical sessions involving small discussion groups, individuals and team activities and projects. Attendance, assessment only or credit transfer for practical elements is required. Therefore the courses cannot be delivered ONLY as a self paced learning or distance education (exception Boat Licence Theory). Integrated delivery of some units will occur with training session times and training times and dates may vary due to severe weather conditions.
