Skills Recognition
Skills Recognition means your previous education, training, work and life experiences may count towards the completion of your training. Skills recognition offers some excellent benefits:
- formally acknowledges your competence at your job
- reduces the time it takes you to complete all or part of your qualification
- reduces the cost to your business
- means you don't have to be trained in things they already know
- identifies skills gaps that can then be addressed
- makes your professional crew development more focused
To apply for recognition towards a national qualification you will need to supply evidence supporting your claim of relevant skills and knowledge. This might include:
- certificates, statements of attainment, qualifications
- maritime endorsements, record of service books, reports and letters, photographs
- references from paid or unpaid work experience
Often, we recommend the participant to complete a number of challenges, either by
- demonstrating practical competence, and/or
- successful pass marks on worksheets, multiple choice tests or written assessments
The skills recognition service is included for those who enrol in Private Tuition and undertake a training programme or course with SEA SCHOOL.
Applying for Recognition (RPL) without evidence or SEA SCHOOL training
If you are finding it difficult to gather evidence to support your claim or you are studying somewhere other than SEA SCHOOL we can process recognition for the following fees:
- initial recognition interview, by appointment, $90.
- identify the gap in training
- to complete the training the participant must attend specific training days, or book a professional trainer for private lessons
- the public cost of training (June 2010) is @ $220 or $250 per day per participant in a group
- the amount of gap training needed to complete the recognition process is determined after the initial interview
- gap training can be made for individuals or small groups with a price to be negotiated
