Enrolment Options

SEA SCHOOL offers flexible training options. Each program is designed with your specific requirements in mind. Therefore, we strive to develop participants' skills, knowledge and attitudes in the maritime industry as deckhands, coxswain, engine drivers and masters.

Subject to availability, anyone can enrol in SEA SCHOOL course. Workplace training at your corporation, non-profit group, or other organisation can provide you with your own course at the location and time of your preference, customising the program to suit your unique organisational needs.

Public Courses

SEA SCHOOL's face to face public training courses attract a wide cross-section of participants, including skilled industry personnel. SEA SCHOOL has never cancelled a student enrolment because of insufficient participants, so you can rely confidently upon the timetable, and the sending in of your enrolment application. However, SEA SCHOOL has a "first in, first served" policy regarding enrolments and courses are regularly sold out, so once you have chosen your preferred course early enrolment is advised.

Upon enrolling, students are immediately sent a letter confirming acceptance into their chosen course detailing the dates and times for their training. Once SEA SCHOOL accepts your enrolment you can be confident that there won't be any unexpected surprises, we never cancel an enrolment because of a lack of participants.

Skills Recognition (RPL)

Under competency based training, the focus is with learners demonstrating competency in the specified areas. Competency can be demonstrated by the physical 'doing' and/or by evidence and documentation that documents the 'doing'. Evidence is anything that supports a claim by the candidate that they are competent or a demonstration of competence based on a recognised standard, learning outcome and/or performance under certain conditions.

If you have prior learning or work experience and are enrolling in a SEA SCHOOL course, we recommend you also lodge a skills recognition form to formally apply for course credits where eligible. For example: Marine Radio, First Aid and units within the Maritime Training Package.

To do so, you may use our Interactive Skills Recognition Form. Alternatively you may contact us to discuss your application or to arrange an appointment with a training officer.

Assessment Only

Where the candidate feels that they have the requisite competencies, but cannot easily prove these through recognition, the assessment-only pathway may be an option. This enables candidates to prove competency by completing the assessment component of the course only, without participating in the full training. There is no stipulated pre-requisite for enrolling in the Assessment Only program. However, it is only recommended for masters with adequate sea-service, but for whatever reason are unable to obtain Recognition (RPL).

Upgrade to the new Industry Standards

SEA SCHOOL has always been highly regarded for our user-friendly recognition services that allow students the option to obtain their qualifications through recognition and assessment only. These options are now available to upgrade your qualification from aged training to new, from TDM01 to TDM07. Updated training is also an industry standard requirement for Maritime Authority certificate of competency applications. There are 4 steps to this process:

  1. Attendance to any of our public courses ( either in full and/or) specifically the
  2. Practical training days, and the
  3. Assessment days
  4. Payment

The days you are required to attend the course may vary for each participant. This is due to

  • how old are your certificates
  • how current is your training
  • are you now working on the water
  • can you demonstrate practical competency
  • can you retain information easily
